Summary

In this three-day course, you gain a practical foundation for understanding how medicines work in the body and how to apply that knowledge to make informed decisions in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sectors.

You will develop an understanding of key pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles and learn to assess the use of medicines in high-risk patient populations, such as those with liver and kidney disease, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and elderly patients on polypharmacy.


The course will strengthen your:

  • Understanding of basic pharmacology and its practical application in everyday life
  • Knowledge of adverse effects, interactions, and support systems with a focus on patient safety, and
  • Ability to communicate professionally with healthcare professionals.

Together with “Organ Modules I and II”, the course forms a compulsory part of the Pharma Consultant Programme.

Course information

Literature

Prior to the course, you get access to mandatory and optional readings via your personal Atrium login.

Prerequisites

This course is designed for those with documented knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and pathology equivalent to the [Anatomy & Physiology and Pathology] course. Therefore, you must have passed the [Exam 1] before attending.

Examination

The course concludes with a test, which you must pass to proceed to Organ Modules 1 and 2, as well as the final [Exam 2]. If more than eight months pass between passing the test and the start of the Organ Module courses, you will be required to sit and pass the test again.
