Summary

On October 30, 2018 the Danish Ministry of Health announced that pharmaceuticals not currently covered by price-fixing agreements between the government, the Danish Regions and Lif will be subject to an international reference pricing system by law in the future, unless the pharma company agrees to the pricing agreements. The bill will be debated and voted on in 2019. If it is enacted into law, price-cap regulation will set a maximum price for all hospital medicine and all reimbursed prescription medicine on the Danish market.

The seminar will focus on how price ceilings for reimbursable prescription medicine and hospital medicine are set. We will also look at the administrative and political context for negotiating pricing agreements and how international reference pricing systems in Denmark and abroad are modelled and used in practice. Finally, we will discuss likely scenarios for an upcoming price-cap regulation and how the upcoming healthcare reform could affect the pharmaceutical market.
